Our First WOLF Meetings of the Season

September 8, 2014: Summer is gone and we are back to the scouting routine. The boys were excited to be back from summer vacation and start a new season filled with fun. We lost a scout to another town, and gained another three. Our Den is now larger than it was last year. We have a bunch of proud WOLVES.

During our first meeting we reviewed the rules and law, introduced a talking stick, made cards for the EMT's of our community to thank them for their hard work, and enjoyed some Wolf Achievements like rolling forward / backwards, and walking the plank. It was a great first meeting.

September 11, 2014: The Scouts deliver cookies and the cards they made to the EMT's to show their appreciation for all they do for our community. It was a quick but highly rewarding event for both the Scouts and the EMT's.

September 16, 2014: First Pack Meeting of the season. TIGERS were welcomed to the PACK, and the WOLVES, BEARS, and WEBELOS received the awards they worked on during the summer. Dylan was once again chosen to be color guard and he carries the Pack Flag with pride. The scouts and their siblings enjoyed playing popcorn games. Dylan was delighted to interact with scouts of every rank, play games, and add the Travel Belt Loop, Travel Academic Pin,  Language and Culture Belt Loop, Marble Belt Loop, Kickball Belt Loop, and Emergency Preparedness Pin to his collection. We also received the Boat Kit for the Raingutter Regatta Race. We can't wait for all the fun that comes ahead.

From Brownies to Juniors

June 1, 2014: Our precious girl scout crosses over from Brownies to Juniors. Proud as can be, Kaylee completes another year of Girl Scouts. During a short and very sweet ceremony the girls were called one by one and crossed the bridge to a new level. From Brownies to Juniors, from brown uniforms to green ones, the girls know they are about to encounter new experiences with old friends; and as parents and leaders we can't help wonder "What Can a Girl Do?" One thing is for sure, we know we will work together ToGetHer there.

AHG Court of Honor

May 20, 2014: Today was officially the last day of the Year for the American Heritage Girls of Troop 1508 as we celebrated the girls achievements in Court of Honor. Each level group was recognized with the awards they earned. Kaylee received a multiple of awards she worked so hard for throughout the year. The girls moving up to the next level crossed the bridge and received the new uniform. The pride and happiness in the girls faces was difficult to hide.

TIGER Scout Advances to WOLF

May 18, 2014: The ceremony started out with the distribution of achievements the scouts have works on, followed by the 'CUBOMATIC', a hidden voice that asks the scouts a question related to what they have learned. Once the response is acceptable (which it was first time around: go Tigers) little Tiger scouts go behind the curtain and come back out as Wolves. From orange neckerchiefs to yellow ones they cannot contain their smiles, and some parents cannot contain their tears. Now Wolves, parent reflect on how quickly this year passed and realize that it will be a matter of some short years and the little cubs become full grown and independent scouts. After the Award and Advancement Ceremony, we all enjoyed skits that all the scout dens put together, and of course more s'mores. Congratulations Scouts!

Tigers Attend the Webelos Crossover

March 22, 2014 - Can you imagine the excitement? The Webelos were showing off their years of experience as Cubs and were about to join a new journey as Boy Scouts. On this windy, chilly Saturday the parents and kids shared some laughter and shed some tears of emotion as the boys were presented with their awards and recognition. The Ceremony presented by older Boy Scouts to welcome the younger ones to their Troop was truly something to appreciate. And as I let it all soak in, I wondered what it will be like when Dylan becomes a Boy Scout ... and to think that is just a few short years away.

During this ceremony, Dylan received his Computers Belt Loop, Video Games Belt Loop, Weather Belt Loop, and Weather Academic Pin.

Puppetry, Money Management, Ancestor Detector

March 18, 2014 - It was a meeting packed with fun activities. To culminate the Puppetry Award the girls brought a common object from home to use for making noise that would represent a specific kind of sound in a show . They shared their object, made a sound (or a few) with them and discussed what the sound may represent. The girls were very creative with their choice of objects and coming up with what each sound could have been used for. It was loud, it was musical, it was fun! Can you guess what Kaylee's objects were?

To continue to work on their Money Management Award, they each brought a stuffed animal friend to trade with each other. They were responsible for taking care of it during the meeting. Through this, they learned stewardship. The girls discussed what makes each one of them a good manager, the things God entrust them with, and how they felt when entrusting their things to others.
With clear skies and a great temperature of just a little above 80, the girls had the opportunity to go outside to work on their Ancestor Detector Award. After learning the official rules of hopscotch, the girls made three groups and played hopscotch until their hearts were content. Later they discussed other games their ancestors may have played. Lastly, they enjoyed the playground, fun that our ancestors passed on.

April 29, 2014: Today the girls continued working on another part of the Ancestor Detector badge. They made their own kites and flew them in the play ground. It was a beautiful site to see the many girls running around as they made their kites fly as high as they could. It was a very exciting time for us all.  After flying their kites, they learned the rules of the game Kick the Can and enjoyed playing that for a while before returning inside to take part in the closing ceremony. This was another day full of excitement for the American Heritage Girls.

AHG Work on the Toys & Games Badge

February 25th, 2014 - Each meeting the AHG start with a flag ceremony and a prayer. Today was no different. At the culmination of the ceremony, the girls gathered up and started to work on a step for the Toys and Games Badge. Sadly, the girls had already started this badge by the time Kaylee joined this group, and she may not be able to finish all previous steps for the badge; but nonetheless, she enjoyed participating. The girls followed origami steps to have a very adorable waterproof boat. If you will like to make one too, follow this link. Thanks Zoe from Captain Crafty!

After the girls were finished with their paper boat, they played a game with conversation heart candies and chopsticks. This game consists of the girls using chopsticks to pick up as many candies as they can in a 25 second time frame. The girls that waited their turn cheered the girls playing. This game had been planned for the Valentine's Day Party but with so many other activities planned, there was no time for this one. The leaders brought it back to get the girls engaged in this challenging game. The girls enjoyed it so much that they requested it was brought back the next meeting for another moment of loud fun.

After the closing ceremony, Kaylee had the opportunity to meet with the group leader for a conference about her Joining Award. Kaylee has officially completed all the steps to get this award; and she was one happy girl. Congratulations Miss. Kaylee!

Blue & Gold Banquet 2014

Dylan's first Blue & Gold Banquet was a hit! The Blue & Gold Banquet is a yearly Scouting "birthday"celebration enjoyed by many scouts and their family members. The event is filled with entertainment, awards, recognitions, food, and a cake contest. This year's theme was Western. The scouts enjoyed the performance of a "Trick Cowboy" and of course barbeque style food. Many cakes were displayed for contest review and voting as well as for a silent auction. Dylan's cake was a monster mostly made by him, and for sure his pride  when he insisted that we bid on his cake at the silent auction. At the very last second we lost our bid by $1 for a total of $36. Dylan's cake won the "Most Disgusting Cake Award". I am not sure that is what he was trying to achieve, but nontheless he was happy to have won an award. Dylan also received two belt loops, two academic pins, and his Tiger badge. Congratulations Scout!
