GS Juniors Work on the Playing the Past Badge

October 15, 2014: The girls worked on the Playing the Past Badge. The girls learned and experienced a small part of what it was like to be a girl of the 1800's. They looked at pictures, discussed what they thought living in the past was like, experimented with a dutch oven, played games of the past, and made a bonnet to wear.

October 18, 2014: To continue the adventure we (girls and adults) made rag dolls similar to the ones girls would make and play with during the pioneer era. This wonderful event was sponsored by our town's Historical Museum and instructed by lovely volunteers dressed as if from that era too.

November 30, 2014: How better to experience the past than to visit a museum where the past is lived. The girls enjoyed the self guided tour and interaction with the many volunteers that roamed the museum dressed with outfits from the 1800's. The Fort Worth Log Cabin Village is not only a great get away for an afternoon, but an amazing place to teach the girls that life was indeed wonderful before we were overrun with technology and the many conveniences we now have. It gives us a chance to experience how differently girls lived in the past, and f how to appreciate what they have in the present.

Cub Scouts WOLVES Visit the Fire Station

October 20, 2014: The WOLVES visited the Fire Station. They started their meeting with an outdoor flag ceremony where the firefighters taught them how to raise and bring down the Texas and the American Flags the proper way. Then they were given a tour of the fire station and got to see the fire truck and its tools up close. It was a tour filled with excitement and information for the kids and adults alike.

We concluded our meeting with an obstacle course.

Cub Scouts WOLVES Visit Home Depot

November 3, 2014: The Wolves work on their Tools for Fixing and Building at The Home Depot. They toured the hands tool section of the store, learned the names and purposes of many of the tool, and where guided in using some of the simpler tools such as the hammer, the screwdriver, and the wrench. After many questions and answers, the boys build their own mini pallet and received a certificate and fun pin from the store. It was a great meeting filled with smiles from beginning to end.

Cub Scout Fall Campout 2014

November 8-9, 2014: We always look forward to campouts, and this one was no different. Starting Saturday early morning to Sunday mid morning, the days where packed with activities. We found a great spot for our tent and pitched it in a matter of minutes thanks to the instant capability our tent has. Dylan helped to inflate the air mattresses with a hand pump, and drove some of the stakes into the ground. We set everything else in place and had breakfast with the rest of the scouts and their families.

The boys practiced their skit, played hide and seek, worked on their softball and astronomy belt loops, and gathered around the fire to tell stories and jokes.

During our Pack Meeting, the boys received their awards, performed their skits, and made s'mores. The meeting culminated with a Flag Retirement Retirement.

Our night ended with more jokes, stories, and even more s'mores around the campfire (which felt great considering the low temperatures of 40's in our very hot state of Texas). The night felt cold even with hand warmers inside our sleeping bags, but we made it through the next morning where again breakfast was around the campfire. And just as everything was set up Saturday, it was taken down Sunday. Our morning ended at the camp site with a religious service and flag ceremony. A good time was had by all!

WOLF: Raingutter Regatta

October 19, 2014: What can a boy make with kit in box? A Raingutter Regatta Sail Boat. A what? A little boats he puts together and paints to his liking to compete against other boats as the boys huff and puff to get their creation from one end of a rain gutter to the other. It is a very tiring event where the poor little lungs gasp for air on each breath to make the boats go fast; but it is still fun. Dylan's boat did not win, but he did have fun putting it together, painting it, and racing it.

Girl Scouts JUNIORS: Animals Habitats Badge

September 17, 2014: Girl Scout Troop 2152 starts this season as first time Juniors. The girls were excited to welcome two new faces to our troop. They were all eager to start working to load their brand new green vests with badges and patches. After the pledge, law, and some reminders, the girls started to work on multiple steps for they first badge: Animal Habitats. They explored wild animals and their habitats outside of our meeting place. I was fascinated by their silence and dedication to the assignment as each pair of girls quietly walked and searched for signed of the existence of wild animals. Here is what the girls found: a bird nest, a wasp nest, eaten acorns, and a rabbit. We had the opportunity to discuss their findings, why they thought wild animals lived in the area, what they can do to help protect them, and the importance of leaving no trace behind.

Next we discussed how human error affects wild animals and their habitats, why some animals are endangered, and what we can do to help endangered species. The girls enjoyed a hands on activity to experiment oil spills and ways to clean the water and the birds that are affected by such spills.

It was a successful meeting for all.

September 20, 2014: What better way than to help the habitats of our local wild animals than to help clean their surroundings? The girls and their families came together on a Saturday morning to pick up trash at the Trinity River Trash Bash event in Fort Worth. After nearly an hour and a half of work, we enjoyed pizza, snow cones, and life music from Radio Disney. We all had a productive and grand time.

Our First WOLF Meetings of the Season

September 8, 2014: Summer is gone and we are back to the scouting routine. The boys were excited to be back from summer vacation and start a new season filled with fun. We lost a scout to another town, and gained another three. Our Den is now larger than it was last year. We have a bunch of proud WOLVES.

During our first meeting we reviewed the rules and law, introduced a talking stick, made cards for the EMT's of our community to thank them for their hard work, and enjoyed some Wolf Achievements like rolling forward / backwards, and walking the plank. It was a great first meeting.

September 11, 2014: The Scouts deliver cookies and the cards they made to the EMT's to show their appreciation for all they do for our community. It was a quick but highly rewarding event for both the Scouts and the EMT's.

September 16, 2014: First Pack Meeting of the season. TIGERS were welcomed to the PACK, and the WOLVES, BEARS, and WEBELOS received the awards they worked on during the summer. Dylan was once again chosen to be color guard and he carries the Pack Flag with pride. The scouts and their siblings enjoyed playing popcorn games. Dylan was delighted to interact with scouts of every rank, play games, and add the Travel Belt Loop, Travel Academic Pin,  Language and Culture Belt Loop, Marble Belt Loop, Kickball Belt Loop, and Emergency Preparedness Pin to his collection. We also received the Boat Kit for the Raingutter Regatta Race. We can't wait for all the fun that comes ahead.
